How we use AI
We use AI tools to help make our guides. This page says what the tools do and what people do.
What AI does
- It suggests topics, based on what people search for.
- It gathers facts from public sources, each with a short quote.
- It writes a draft, mainly from those facts.
What our software checks
- It loads every source page and confirms the quoted words are on it. Facts that fail are dropped.
- It checks each draft’s structure and reading level, and rejects banned phrases.
- It rejects a draft that gives a price, rate or figure its source does not state, and it redoes the arithmetic in worked examples.
It does not check every sentence of a draft against a source.
What people do
- Our editor, George McTaggart, chooses the topics.
- Our editor reads every guide and approves it, or sends it back. No guide goes live without that approval.
Our guides are not reviewed by an accountant or a lawyer.
The builder
The invoice and estimate builder does not use AI. It is ordinary code that runs in your browser.
Our limits on AI
- AI never writes in the voice of a person, and never claims personal experience.
- AI never invents quotes, people or studies.
