What to put on a fence estimate

  • The fence material, height and style
  • Linear feet, number of gates and corner posts
  • Removal and disposal of the old fence
  • Who calls the utility locate service before digging
  • Who gets the permit, if one is needed
  • Your business name and how to reach you
  • The client's name and address
  • A unique number and the date

How to use this template

  1. Enter your business details once. This browser remembers them for next time.
  2. Add the client, the date and the job details.
  3. List each item on its own line. Tick “Taxed” for the lines you charge tax on, and enter your tax rate.
  4. Choose “Download PDF or print”, then “Save as PDF” in the print window.
  5. For the next job, choose “New estimate”. It keeps your business details and moves to the next number.

Tips

  • Say in writing who confirms the property line. Your estimate should not depend on a guess.
  • In the US, call 811 before digging; note on the estimate that you will.
  • Number every document in order and never reuse a number. It makes your records easy to follow.
